Automotive Skills Facilities on Army Garrisons worldwide are equipped with vehicle lifts and a broad selection of tools and state-of-art equipment for self-help repair and maintenance of personal motor vehicles. Customers have a clean, safe environment in which to work.
| Auto Skills facilities collectively have 1,320 indoor work bays and 1,400 outdoor work bays available for vehicle repair and maintenance. Many facilities use computer data base reference systems to provide customers quick access to vehicle-specific diagrams and how-to-information. |
Skilled staff members are available to assist and instruct customers and provide safety orientation classes on equipment use. For a nominal hourly bay fee, Soldiers can conduct preventive maintenance, complete major repairs or even undertake full vehicle restoration. Garrisons continue to attain mechanic certifications for automotive staff through the National Institute for Automotive Service Exams (ASE), to broaden the expertise of the staff.
Automotive Skills staff works with Family Readiness Groups to offer organized classes to spouses. Automotive Skills program supports the teen apprentice program, “HIRED”, with employing youth in paid positions to meet the employment and career-exploration needs of Army teens 15-18 years of age.
